//Speyside
Speyside is home to more than two thirds of Scotland’s whisky distilleries and as such is known as “the Golden Triangle”. The region is demarcated by two rivers; the Findhorn to the West and the Deveron to the East. Mount Cairngorm, whose base meets the Gulf of Moray, can be found in the Southern most part of Speyside. It is another river, the Spey that gives this region its name.Most of the region’s distilleries draw their water from the Fiddich, Livet and Acon tributaries. The rivers and temperate climate makes this a naturally fertile region, ideal for the cultivation of barley. Speyside malts are the sweetest whiskies. Although they do not have as much body as some Highland malts their flavours are richer and more complex with fruity, leafy and honeyed notes. Those matured in sherry wood can boast a rich chocolatey, fruity flavour comparable to old Cognac.
